Let’s look at the Insect Sidewinder as a skateboard deck this style tending to be shorter than traditional longboards. 28” - 32” is the length that most racers use. Flex, stiff- med- soft? Well this is down to you. Flex can be your enemy and your saviour.
If you have never set up a skate deck like this before, we advice you do go for a medium flex, this will make learning the art of “pumping” a lot easier. As you progress your skills you may wish to move up to a stiff flex.
The golden rule; when you are stood on your skate deck your weight should leave the deck parallel to the ground surface. The deck should not sag or the camber should not look like you are standing on a humped back bridge. Now you have set the stored “energy” for your first pump.
Roll forward and at speed start to carve, (you must use good quality carving trucks) left and right turns, flowing from one carve to the next and on the apex of each corner start a pumping rhythm, this rhythm flows up through your legs, power then from your hips and upper torso ending in a flowing swing of the arms like the momentum one would use in a Candian canoe.
Short boards i.e 28" are used on tight technical Courses.
Mid length 30" is a "hybrid" board.
Longer boards say 32" and over are for Giant Courses. |
